The Kay Stories
(45 minutes)
This new show is based on the stories left behind by a person I knew my
entire life: my sister, Kay Noreen from Grande Prairie, Alberta. Kay had
acquired a disability at a young age but never let that get in the way
of expressing her strong personality. Her stories have become more legendary
with time and we, who knew her well, have built up her personal mythology
by telling the tales over and over as families do. Our new Kay puppet
will portray episodes from her life in an entertaining and inspiring narrative.
The Story of Goat
Mountain (30-40
minutes)
Our mountain show gets
its inspiration from our 2000 film created for the Glenbow Museum remembering
the Alberta artist, Carl Rungius. This story is loosely based on a fable
set in a mountain landscape with a variety of puppets including two talking
marionette goats, a family of villains and a cop who saves the day while
riding a goat. The story stresses the importance and enduring strength
of the natural environment in a humorous style.
Taxi
Troubles
(40 minutes)
This is a story about Rick the taxi driver who, in the course of a working
day, has challenging encounters with outlaws, aliens, a hapless clown,
and his own son. Sometimes his dispatcher or the police can help him but
not always. The story is a high-energy display of puppetry told with music
and humor where the characters interact with each other and the audience
in the telling of a Chaplin-esque fable.
Alien Adventure
(30 minutes)
An alien and his child arrive on Earth for a friendly visit. When the
alien child gets lost, his father assumes a disguise to search the planet.
Eventually he finds his baby but only after trying to get help from various
strange and amusing characters who turn his search into a crazy adventure.
the Crazy Christmas
Carol (40
minutes)
...is a very loose
adaptation of Charles Dickens' famous story. The Red Smarteez version
has an old character who finally recovers his Christmas spirit after being
nasty to everybody (including Santa).
Smarteez for Dummeez
(30-40 minutes)
This street show gives
the audience examples of the stellar skills of the various Red Smarteez
characters. The marionettes will perform acts of physical daring, make
amusing predictions about audience members, play pranks on each other
and, occasionally, dance up a storm. These performances are characterized
by a generous amount of improvisation and interaction with the audience.
